Central Council Selections

  1. J IV NY State Team Selection Process:

Calculations are done separately for girls and boys.

Compile 3 finish times (1′st run, 2′nd run and combined time) for each racer, for each race held.

Compile the best 5 out of 12 finish times, for each racer. 12 is derived from # of races held in the 2010/2011 season (4 council races) multiplied by 3 finish times per race. 5 comes from the formula: One half of the total finish times compiled (6), less 1 finish time (for 2010/2011 season that is 12 finish times, divide by 2, minus 1).

Select top 11 boys, and the top 12 girls (# determined by the council), and 1 boy alternate and i girl alternate.

Selection results are computed and announced immediately following the last council race of the season. Calculations are computed by an independent selection committee, made up of 3 persons, each from a different race club within the council.

Rip Van Winkle Nations Cup

The Nations Cup Teams:

Canada, Czech Republic, Japan, Liechtenstein, Norway

Rules

Five teams will compete for honors at each RVW race and for a season award

•Selection:  Each J4 and 2nd year J5 racer in the RVW Council Series will be placed on 1 of the above five teams.  Selections will be based on last year’s rankings to help insure teams are of equal ability.  Teams remain the same throughout the season.  New 2nd year J5’s will be assigned at random.

•   Scoring:  The finish places for all racers on a team will be totaled and averaged by the number of teammates.  (DSQ’s and DNF’s will receive the same finish place point as the last racer with a result plus 1.)  The team with the lowest finish place points wins

•   Season awards:  Will be based on each team’s cumulative average place points

Rip Van Winkle Selection Procedures

Each racer will receive three possible place points per race as follows:

place point for 1st run

place point for 2nd run

place point for combined time

The five best results are then counted to determine the racer’s place for the state team. Therefore, each racer has a possible 12 places of which 5 will count.
